Randy
Johnston speaks on many topics including: Computer Hardware and Software, Local
Area and Wide Area networking (LANs and WANs), Top Ten Accounting Products, ERP
Software, Internet, Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000 and XP, Microsoft Office 97,
2000 an XP, Windows applications, Computer Telephony, document imaging, SQL
databases, interpersonal relations, UNIX/Linux, systems design, and video
conferencing. He has been the
top-rated speaker at the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) technology
conference consistently during the last decade.
Mr.
Johnston is currently a stockholder in Network
Management Group, Inc. a consulting practice that has been involved in
network installations and consulting since 1982. His responsibilities with the
company include outside consulting, speaking, and training all technical staff
members. NMGI has approximately
sixteen hundred networks installed in many different industries in virtually
every state in the nation. He is
also a partner in K2 Enterprises, the leader in
CPA Technology CPE. K2 also offers banking seminars as well as in-house
training.
Mr.
Johnston has wide ranging experience in the computer industry on many sizes and
types of computers including ES9000, AS/400, DEC VAX, and Unisys mainframes and
minicomputers. His experience also
crosses many vertical industries including the financial, accounting, legal and
medical professions. He has
installed a variety of network systems including Novell NetWare and IntranetWare,
Windows for Workgroups, 95, 98, NT and 2000, SCO UNIX, Red Hat Linux, Banyan
Vines, IBM LAN Server, Artisoft Lantastic, and Personal NetWare. He
has written commercial systems including accounting software, medical billing
and paperless claims, hotel systems, and has owned computer franchises from
ComputerLand, Entre' and Connecting Point.
Randy’s Connecting Point was given the President’s Award as the top
dealership in the nation in 1994 and awarded the status of being one of the Top
100 Value Added Resellers (VARs) in 1998 and 1999.
He
is the past Chair of the AICPA Technology Conference ('96, '97, '98 and ‘99)
and provided early models for the Data Processing Management Association (DPMA-AITP)
model curriculum. Randy has
instructed college level classes since graduating from Kansas State and Wichita
State University. He has written
three college level texts for McGraw-Hill, and is currently developing two
other books about networking and family relations.
Wiley just published Technology
Best Practices in 2002 which Randy co-authored with Dr. Bob Spencer.
Randy enjoys his mission “To help as many people as possible use technology in the way it benefits them most”, but always takes time away from work to enjoy his family. His wife, Pam, and their four children enjoy many activities together including golf, model trains, music, acting, photography, camping, swimming, and just being together. Community involvement is important to Randy as well. He is a past Lt. Governor of Optimist International in the Kansas District, past President of Christ Lutheran Church and past Vice-President of the School Board in his hometown of Hutchinson, Kansas.
